WHEN it comes to Rock Eisteddfod, Sunbury mother Loren Spiteri is happy to take a back seat to her daughter Jess.
Ms Spiteri's involvement with the event started when Jess was in grade 5 and began taking part in Overnewton College's foray into J Rock, the junior version of Rock Eisteddfod.
Ms Spiteri has been a part of it ever since, working behind the scenes like many parents in the sewing room at the school to create colourful costumes.
Ms Spiteri said the school had been ready to start rehearsals for this year's production when the event was called off. "I was really upset for the children. It's such a good experience ..."
Jess, now 16 and in year 11, has come a long way since her JRock days.
The dance student said the experience had been amazing.
"It's a big part of our school curriculum. I joined up after watching all the other kids years before perform and seeing how much fun it was.
"When I first heard the news [of its closure] I was pretty devastated."
