Festival goes green

09 Feb, 2010 09:28 AM
LOCAL alternative rock band Green Skies is looking to make its mark at the Moonee Valley Festival this month.

The four-piece outfit met at high school and formed in 2007.

Their music is influenced by a range of individual styles including post rock, European folk, metal, indie and punk.

It can vary between delicate melodic sections and heavier passages, often changing mood within one song.

The group's lyrics focus on themes such as social illness, corruption and philosophy.

Green Skies started with Jason Foenander and David Norrish mucking around on acoustic guitars.

The pair built up a small repertoire of songs in their first few months and played a few minor gigs but felt restricted by having just two guitars and a fill-in drummer.

In the end the band was joined by long-time friend Alex Sideras who filled the drumming void.

The band has since played a number of gigs and taken part in battle of the bands competitions in its bid to make it big.

Festival details: 9243 8735.
