THE MOONEE Valley community will throw its support behind victims of the Haiti earthquake with a fund-raiser at Queens Park this Friday night.
The Moonee Ponds event will include a service to remember more than 170,000 people who lost their lives in the January 12 tragedy. It will include news footage and guest speakers.
The Rotary Club of Flemington will gather donations on the night and contribute to the world-wide appeal.
Rotary Australia has already sent 3000 emergency shelters to Haiti, giving people who lost their homes temporary accommodation. Moonee Valley Mayor Shirley Cornish encouraged the community to attend and to get on board the relief effort.
"The least we can do is remember those who have perished in the tragedy and support the many people who are over there responding to the immediate aftermath.
"It only takes a small amount to support Haiti's recovery and will also allow the many volunteers to continue to help support earthquake victims."
The service will be held from 6.30-7.30pm.
