MOONEE Valley Council has its first building that won't add to greenhouse gases following installation of a 1.5-kilowatt solar power system at North Essendon Kindergarten.
The kindergarten will offset all its energy use and have no greenhouse gas emissions. The new solar panels will produce 6.1-kilowatt hours of electricity a day and will save three tonnes of greenhouse gases annually - the equivalent of lighting four average Australian homes for a year. The carbon-neutral kindergarten is one of a range of greenhouse-saving initiatives that Moonee Valley Council is undertaking as part of its sustainable building program.
