MORE than 100 students from Buckley Park College in Essendon will take to the stage this month in a theatre production named LOL: The Musical.
Students from year 7 to 11 will showcase an original musical that is based on the classic story of 17th-century duellist Cyrano de Bergerac.
LOL: The Musical tells the story of CB and Roxy, childhood friends who develop a strong attraction for each other in high school. CB wants to tell Roxy his feelings for her but is afraid she will not be interested in him because he is ugly.
As captain of the Musketeers Soccer Club, CB is encouraged by his friends to woo Roxy but instead decides to help a new player at the club, Chris, also interested in Roxy, to win the girl's heart.
Chris is nervous around women so CB starts to write texts and love letters on Chris' behalf,
leading Roxy to fall in love with the writer of the letters, not knowing that it is her old friend, CB.
Written and directed by drama teacher Margie Bainbridge, LOL: The Musical is a celebration of youth and technology.
It premieres on Wednesday, July 22, at the Clocktower Centre in Moonee Ponds, and will run for three consecutive nights at 7pm.
