MOONEE Valley Council has adopted a new policy to improve access to open space in the municipality.
Open Space Strategy - Towards 2020 is aimed at ensuring that existing and future open space needs of Moonee Valley are met.
As reported by the Community News when a draft of the open space plan was released in June, the council has put forward the ambitious plan of giving every resident access to open space within 150metres of their door.
The strategy also calls for an amendment to the Moonee Valley planning scheme to ensure a contribution to open space is associated with every subdivision application.
Road to be sealed
ONE of the last remaining unsealed roads in Moonee Valley, Avron Road, will be sealed with contributions to the cost from Moonee Valley Council and residents.
The council will contribute 50per cent of the $170,000 cost. Eleven properties will share the remaining cost.
Essendon Airport has not committed any money to the resealing despite Avron Road bordering airport land.
Cultural diversity cash
MULTICULTURAL groups in Moonee Valley can apply for a share of $4.6 million in community grants to help strengthen and support cultural diversity.
The grants can be for organisational support, improvements to buildings and facilities or for educational program and projects that strengthen multiculturalism.
