THE Moonee Valley Racing Club and Harness Racing Victoria will formally part company, as has been expected since work started on Melton's newly opened Tabcorp Park.
After months of discussions, the two parties reached an agreement to end HRV's contract to race at the venue, with harness racing to cease at Moonee Valley next February 27.
The decision paves the way for HRV to conduct all metropolitan racing at its new Melton home. HRV chairman Neil Busse said the agreement to end the contract, which was signed in 1984, was reached in good faith.
"Moonee Valley has been home to harness racing in Melbourne for over three decades, but with the industry achieving its dream of building and owning its own home ... it's no longer appropriate for us to continue racing at Moonee Valley.
"I would like to extend my appreciation to Moonee Valley chairman Bob Scarborough and chief executive Michael Browell for the manner in which they have handled these discussions and for their willingness to reach a mutually agreeable resolution."
Nine harness racing meetings remain at Moonee Valley between now and the farewell meeting on Saturday night, February 27.
The Hunter Cup, Inter Dominion trotting grand final and Alabar Victoria Derby will feature at Moonee Valley one more time on February 6.
Tabcorp Park hosts its grand opening race day this Sunday, with racing to become a fixture each Friday night.
