SHERIDAN Harbour and Isabella Capelli have careers behind the footlights in prospect after winning roles in a student musical.
They will both sing in the ensemble of the production of Barnum, a song and dance comedy based on the real life of legendary circus showman PT Barnum.
The Strathmore Secondary College students joined Victorian State Schools singing ensembles earlier this year.
Sheridan, 15, has been singing, acting and playing the piano since primary school.
"I just love performing; it's something I'm passionate about," says the year 10 student who has had experience singing in front of an audience in school productions and in local cafes.
"The nerves come before you go on, but once you are up there it feels amazing."
She dreams of seeing her name at the top of the bill of a big-scale production.
"I loved Wicked! - it was the best. That's what I want to do."
Isabella, 17, is also multi-talented: singing, acting, dancing and playing cello and viola.
"That is why I love musical theatre; it combines all the performing arts."
Isabella performed in the Victorian State Schools Spectacular last year, and recently travelled to Europe with the school's symphony orchestra. The year 12 student plans to pursue a career in the spotlight, hoping to be accepted into a performing arts college.
"I love everything: the costumes, the makeup, all of it. You go out looking fabulous and think, everyone is looking at me. It's a great thrill."
The Victorian State Schools performance ensembles, a State Education Department initiative, include choirs, solo vocalists, dance troupes and bands. Participants aged 10-18 rehearse with industry professionals for two hours each weekend and perform at events, competitions and the Victorian State Schools Spectacular. Barnum will play at the Comedy Theatre from September 11-19.
