WHILE Balraj Singh is excited about the season ahead the confidence is flowing well and truly from Airport Wests' new coach Ron Rooney.
The former Tullamarine coach has compiled a huge list of recruits in the off-season to have a team he hopes will reach the pointy end of the B-grade promotion race.
Prior to Tullamarine Rooney coached at Pascoe Vale, Sunshine YCW in two stints and Oak Park.
An entire team's worth of players will be new faces at Airport West this season, names include Tullarmarine's Steven Freeth and Daniel Khobyar, Taylors Lakes' Socratees Kalas, Doutta Stars' Chris Christou, Broadford players James Drew and Matt Williams, Westmeadows' Mouhsen Maihoub and Marcus Mammoliti, Lara's Reece Attard, Hadfield's Daniel Orr, Kilmore's Matt Swindells, Aberfeldie's Shaun Tommasi and Craigieburn's Brent Gordon.
Even with the abundance of talent to have arrived, Rooney couldn't help but be excited about Singh.
"We went after him and thought we'd missed out, because he worked with Jason Clarke I got onto Clarkey and we recruited them both," Rooney said.
"We went from having none to having two big spearheads, it will add a lot to our attack.
"Our aim is to make the finals first, of the six years i've been back in B-grade it's increased (in standard) 25 per-cent.
"The sides that were finalists last year like Pascoe Vale are really having a crack, they're going to be the yardstick and we play them in round one."
Airport West will play Avondale Heights on Sunday, Ferntree Gully on Saturday March 20 and Parkside on the 27th in practice matches this month.
